Description
A quick and easy method to prepare perfectly cooked hard-boiled eggs using an Instant Pot. This recipe ensures creamy yolks with minimal effort and no need for stovetop monitoring, ideal for meal prep or snacks.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 12 large eggs
- 1 cup cold water
- Ice bath (ice and water to cover eggs)
Instructions
- Prepare Instant Pot: Pour 1 cup of cold water into a 6-quart Instant Pot. Place the steamer basket, egg rack, or trivet inside the pot and arrange the 12 large eggs on it carefully to avoid cracking.
- Seal the Lid: Cover the Instant Pot with its lid and ensure the pressure release valve is set to the sealed position to maintain pressure during cooking.
- Set Cooking Time: Select the High Pressure setting. Set the timer for 5 minutes for slightly less firm yolks, or 6 minutes for creamier yolks according to your preference.
- Cook and Natural Release: The Instant Pot will take several minutes to build up pressure, then cook for the set time. After the timer finishes, let it sit undisturbed for an additional 5 minutes to complete the natural pressure release.
- Release Pressure and Cool Eggs: Carefully switch the pressure release valve to venting to release any remaining steam. Use towels or tongs to remove the hot eggs, then transfer them immediately into an ice water bath to cool for at least 5 minutes.
- Peel the Eggs: Once cooled, gently tap the rounded bottom of each egg on a hard surface and roll it to create cracks all over. Peel the shell under cold running water for smooth and easy removal.
- Serve: Enjoy your hard-boiled eggs plain, use them in classic deviled eggs, egg salad sandwiches, or as a protein-packed snack.
Notes
- Using an ice bath immediately after cooking helps stop the eggs from overcooking and makes peeling easier.
- Cooking times may vary slightly depending on egg size and Instant Pot model.
- If you prefer softer yolks, reduce pressure cooking time to 4 minutes and increase natural release time accordingly.
- Store peeled or unpeeled eggs in the refrigerator for up to one week.
